WELCOME TO THE FOURTH ANNUAL
PEE DEE BLUES BASH
Friday-Saturday, November 4-5, 2011
Florence, South Carolina

Welcome to the fourth annual Pee Dee Blues Bash, part of the South Carolina Pecan Festival!  It is our pleasure to partner again with this beloved community event and, accordingly, offer you FREE performances at two outdoor stages downtown on Saturday, November 6 and three comfortable indoor venues both nights November 4-5.  We have recruited a stellar line-up of national and regional blues artists and there is truly something for everyone...from traditional to contemporary, acoustic to electric, solo to band.  An essential part of Southern culture, the blues truly is the bedrock of Western popular music.  Take this opportunity to check out all the performers...enjoy!

The Nighthawks (Atlanta)   Charlie Sayles

www.thenighthawks.com

The Nighthawks sought not so much to reinvent rock and roll, but simply to have it reinvent itself by taking the original ingredients and following—if somewhat loosely—the original recipe. And like good cooks, the individual personalities involved ultimately affected the outcome. The band was over 10 years old and had baffled the mainstream industry before the term "roots rock" was coined to explain the likes of West Coasters like Los Lobos and The Blasters. By then, the affiliation with many of the living blues greats seemed to brand The Nighthawks a "blues band," despite the fact that they played with Carl Perkins as well as Muddy Waters.

Biscuit Miller

www.bluesboys.com

Born on the south side of Chicago and raised by his Grandmother where he was given his childhood nickname, Biscuit; after always being in the kitchen and underfoot while she was trying to cook. Growing up at Grandma's house also gave Biscuit his love and appreciation for music, as gospel and soul were played in the home on a regular basis.

The Nouveaux Honkies (Florida)

www.tnhband.com

Rebecca Dawkins on fiddle (originally from Florence) and Tim O'Donnell on virtuoso guitar lead this band that blends the best of the blues with spot-on rockabilly, old-time twang, and south Florida swing. An absolutely irresistible live act ...you will hang on their every note.

Lightnin' Wells (NC)

www.lightninwells.com

Acoustic Alley stage is devoted to preserving traditional acoustic blues, and no one does it better than Michael "Lightnin'" Wells. He is accomplished on a variety of instruments (guitar, banjo, uke, harmonica, vocals, etc.) and a man with a deep knowledge of pre-war (WWII) music. Make sure you catch his set for a fascinating journey into the authentic sounds of yesteryear.
